Planting the National Tree in a newly launched school

The EkoSkola Committee and a number of students from Saint Ignatius Girls’ Secondary School celebrated International Women’s Day.  This celebration was held during a special assembly.  A number of students read the challenges women encountered until finally acquiring equal rights status.  They also presented the difficulties women still are facing in other developing countries. This special assembly ended with the planting of three Għargħar trees, the national tree. These trees were given to the school on the initiative of the students by the Nature Trust through the programme LEAF (Learning About Forests), thanks to Mr. Vincent Attard and Mr. Johann Gatt. The students showed their interest in planting indigenous trees in this new school. In fact, the students asked Ms. Micheline Sciberras, the Director General (Directorate for Educational Services) about the possibility of planting indigenous trees during a short meeting they had with her while visiting the school.  The trees were planted by the students of EkoSkola, by the Head of School Ms. Maria Montebello and the College Principal Mr. Horace Caruana.
